Hamptons Fest Shines Light On Up & Coming Actors
Written by Kelly
Rising Stars Taylor Kitsch (NBC's Friday Night Lights), who has a featured role in festival entrant Gospel Hill; and Kate Mara (Brokeback Mountain, We Are Marshall, Shooter), who is featured in Stone of Destiny, which will be screened this week.

As part of the program, the actors will meet with three similarly recognized Shooting Stars, who were named by the European Film Promotion Board: Hannah Herzsprung (Werther), Anamaria Marinca (Boogie), and Maryam Hassouni (Dunya & Desie). The program also includes a private casting workshop, public symposiums, red-carpet events, and meetings with Frances McDormand, Oscar winner and mentor in the program.

All three actors appear in films that have received a certain amount of notice.

Gospel Hill, directed by Giancarlo Esposito, deals with a predominantly black town that has faced racial tensions since the civil rights era. Citizens of the town are now being moved off of their land in favor of a multimillion dollar golf course. Kitsch plays Joel Herrod, the son of an ex-sheriff who incited the racial tensions 30 years ago after not prosecuting anyone for the murder of Peter Malcolm, a civil rights activist played by Samuel L. Jackson.

"The film deals with people's personal morals," says Kitsch. "It leads you to ask what you would do in each character's situation. The audience will learn a lot about themselves through this film. My character sees the racial tensions in front of him and turns a blind eye to them, but he recognizes their effects as well."
